Immigrants Facing ICE Arrests at Bay Area Immigration Court
In recent weeks, a troubling pattern has emerged across San Francisco and the broader Bay Area: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have been arresting undocumented immigrants during their scheduled immigration hearings. These individuals, many of whom were previously released under the “catch and release” policy, are now facing detention and potential deportation.
Recent Developments:
On May 27, 2025, at least four individuals were detained by ICE agents at the San Francisco Immigration Courthouse while attending their hearings. The agents, some in plain clothes, escorted the detainees into unmarked vehicles, raising concerns about the transparency and legality of these actions.
Â
Advocates argue that these arrests are part of a broader strategy to intimidate immigrants and discourage them from attending their hearings. By creating an atmosphere of fear, ICE aims to expedite deportations without due process.
